It is natural for today's Christian to take the individual elements of the Chinese word for boat to refer back to Noah and his family, but if you know anything about Chinese tradition there is a legend of 8 immortals who had to prove their worthiness by defeating the demons of the East Sea. Hence, 8 people in a boat that have NOTHING to do with the Bible.
